Annette Funicello's dancing partner was discovered in Fullerton California by Walt Disney at the age of 13 years old. Funicello did not audition to join the Mickey Mouse Club and joined late into the first season of the show, much to the dislike by their Mickey Mouse Club peers. Disney's intuitions were right Funicello soon became the most popular Mickey Mouse Club performer. Her own storyline Adventures in Dairyland also featured her. Her albums slowly improved beginning with the third, Annette Sings Anka, probably the first LP to consider the music of a rock musician as an actual repertoire. Funicello co-starred with Frankie Avalon in Beach Party. The film was the first in a series of movies about beach parties which were hugely popular.
